Nanny-level ChatGPT Registration Tutorial

Preface

Today, I went through the process again and summarized some of the most common issues with various registration processes found online. I also provide some practical methods for everyone. For those who are unable to meet the requirements, I will provide third-party sites that can be directly used in the domestic environment and shared accounts without registration.

For friends who have the conditions and like to study and only want to use their own accounts to play with the genuine GPT, you can see the instructions at the end. The tutorial is quite detailed and beginner-friendly. If you still have other problems during the registration process, please feel free to leave a comment.

Direct Access in China

To put it simply, third-party sites and shared accounts cannot guarantee availability and security, and they have a limited lifespan. Please judge for yourself.

Prerequisites

Prepare a foreign network environment and enable global proxy.
Register a ChatGPT account and complete email verification.
Receive the mobile verification code through the SMS verification platform.
Log in to your email and start using ChatGPT!
Special emphasis: If you encounter access denial, unavailability in your region, or other errors during the following tutorial, it means your proxy is not working. It is recommended to switch and try several different ones.

Register for ChatGPT

The entire process assumes that you have already enabled a foreign network environment (excluding mainland China and Hong Kong). The subsequent tutorial will not repeat this emphasis.

Email Verification

Go to the registration page.
Enter your email address (preferably a Gmail account, which is easy to receive verification codes. If you don't have one, you can use a QQ mailbox, but it may take a dozen minutes to receive the code. However, it has been tested and can be received. Please be patient. Note that Netease 163 mailboxes cannot be registered).
After filling in, send an email for verification.
Enter the verification code from your Gmail account to complete the process (if you are using a QQ mailbox, a verification link will be sent by default. Click on the link to complete the verification).

I used my own Gmail and QQ mailboxes for registration, and both have been tested and proven to work. 163 mailboxes do not work.

Possible problems and solutions:

Registration is currently unavailable: If you use a 163 mailbox or other mailbox that cannot be used for registration, simply switch to another mailbox.
Too many sign-ups from the same IP: This may be due to frequent clicks on the registration button, or it may be due to congestion caused by users from the same region. Switch proxies and try again.

SMS Verification

After email verification, we will enter the information filling page (you can enter any random first name and last name). After filling in, click "Next".
Enter the mobile phone number for verification. Since domestic mobile phone numbers cannot be registered, we need to purchase a foreign virtual mobile number. There are many SMS verification platforms available, and here we will use the most common one, smsactivate, as an example.

Go to the SMS official website and register your own account on this platform first. On the left sidebar, you will see a dedicated section for registering virtual mobile numbers for OpenAI. Click on it to purchase a virtual mobile number (try to avoid the North American region). Recharge your balance and make the purchase (a virtual mobile number costs a few RMB, note that the recharge is in USD, and recharging 1 USD is usually enough. You can see Alipay as a payment option by scrolling down). Below, you will see a field for receiving the verification code for the virtual mobile number.
Go back to the ChatGPT registration page. Select the country where you purchased the mobile number, copy the mobile number from the SMS platform, and paste it into the ChatGPT registration field (remember to delete the first two digits, which are the area code). Below, there will be a prompt asking if you want to choose WhatsApp for verification. Select "NO" and click "Send Code via SMS" to receive the verification code. After receiving the code, there will be a notification sound on the SMS website. Paste the code to complete the verification.

Possible problems and solutions:

Haven't received the verification code for a long time: The verification code cannot be guaranteed to be received 100% of the time on the verification platform. In some cases, you may need to wait a few minutes or even longer. If you haven't received it after about ten minutes, it means it is invalid. Simply purchase another virtual mobile number.
Prompt for frequent sending of verification codes or that the number cannot be used: If you didn't receive the code after clicking "Send" once, you can try again after a few minutes. Frequent sending will prompt that it is too frequent and restricted. The best solution to this type of problem is to purchase a new number.

I tested three regions: India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. I received the code in Malaysia and Indonesia, but it may vary for different people. This is just for reference.

Log in to ChatGPT

After completing the above steps, congratulations on successfully registering for ChatGPT. You can log in through the ChatGPT official website.

Possible problems and solutions:

If you are stuck on one page when logging in, it is mostly due to proxy issues. Please switch to another region's proxy.
ChatGPT is at capacity right now: This is because the OpenAI website is currently experiencing a high volume of visitors, and the servers are overloaded. It is recommended to use it during a different time period.
We're currently processing too many requests: The website is experiencing a high demand for access. It is recommended to try again during a different time period.
The answers generated are still in English even when inputting Chinese: Refresh the page or try using a different browser.
